STEEPS TO A SAFER HOME

by HOLLY HURD

Is your home safe? Studies show that burglaries occur at an average of every eight seconds, 400,000 serious residential fires happen every year, and more child deaths result from accidents than from all diseases combined.
Though we can never be completely safe at home, we can take certain steps to dramatically reduce hazards and the possibility of injury or tragedy.

1. Make sure your home is fire-safe.
Test every smoke detector in your house by pressing the test button. If it doesn’t sound an alert, replace the battery.
Keep at least two fully charged, multipurpose fire extinguishers in your home: One in the kitchen area and one in the garage, located in clear view.

2. Prevent carbon monoxide poisoning.
The surest prevention is to have a professional technician inspect flues and vents, chimneys, and any fuel-burning equipment.

3. Make your home more secure.
A home security system can protect your house and family from burglary, carbon monoxide, and fire whether you’re home or away.

4. Be prepared for emergencies.
Develop an escape plan and practice with a family drill. Each room should have at least two exits.

5. Make your home safe for children.
If you have a swimming pool, pond or hot tub, be sure kids can’t get to it on their own. Never leave children unattended near pools or tubs.

Additionally, if you have small children in your home, check for poisons or objects that could be ingested, and eliminate the potential for falls.

SHOULD I KEEP MY HOME ON THE MARKET DURING THE HOLIDAYS?

Clients tell you we want to take our
home of market for the holidays!
The holidays are here. Your clients are asking
if this is a good time to sell their house.
Should I take my home off the market until the spring?
Even though showing become fewer,
the ones you do get are more serious buyers.
Well the home might not be ready for showings!
It can help if you implement a 2-24hour advance notice this can
help with the stress of having to get ready for a showing.
Another thought is if your home is on the market
during the holidays there might be less compitition.
No matter what time of year, a home that’s priced well for
the market will surely sell no matter what time of year it is.
Turn up the temperature during showings
to make your home feel more like a home.
Have Holiday treats and festive music playing (Low)
for your potential buyers.
By giving your buyers more time in your home,
you’re giving them more time to
be impressed with its best features.

YOUR BEAUTIFUL BELOVED PET (THAT SMELLS)

I want to make it very clear I am an Animal "LOVER" and I donate time and money to various charity rescue groups in and around Northville Michigan. I also help with a group called The puppy Rescue Mission.  That being said So many home owners have pets today.  I recently read an article that said that over 75% of homeowners have some type of pet.  That means dogs and cats, guinea pigs and gerbils, turtles and fish, birds and snakes.
Well, whatever type of pet you have...we can all agree that we all love our pets.  After all, they're part of the family, aren't they?
But, when it comes to selling your home, buyers don't want to be reminded about your sweet little furry critter.
Lexi the American Pitbull Terrier/ Italian Greyhound Mix

Not everyone appreciates your pet like you do.
There is no bigger turn off when walking through the front door of a home than the "smell" of your pet.
I have seen buyers turn on their heel and walk right back out if they even catch a hint of a smelly pet.

So, sellers, be very careful that your home is deoderized and ready to "smell"
BEFORE that prospective buyer walks through the front door.
